Multi-year road widening effort coming to Waterdown Road

Construction timeline is March 2024 through the end of 2026

The City of Burlington in conjunction with the City of Hamilton and the Region of Halton, will be making improvements on Waterdown Road between Craven Avenue and Mountain Brow Road starting in March of 2024.

Waterdown Road will remain open throughout the course of the multi-year construction timeline. However, at times short-term road closures and/or lane restrictions will be in effect. Motorists can expect delays through the area, but generally speaking, two-way traffic will be maintained during the entirety of construction.

The purpose of the work is to reconstruct and widen Waterdown Road, as well as to install a concrete curb and a multi-use pathway on the west side of the road, with a sidewalk on the east side. Further, the project includes storm sewer installation, tree planting, new street lighting and a watermain replacement. Increased levels of dust and mud will likely be common within the project zone. The contractor is required to manage these impacts.

Waterdown Road will eventually expand to become four lanes. However, in the near-term, it will be delineated as a three-lane cross-section with on-road bike lanes, subject to traffic volume increases over time.
