Winter is coming … Hamilton’s Snow Angels program has a new look!

Historically, Hamilton’s Snow Angels program connected volunteers to seniors and/or disabled residents across the city, to assist with snow and windrow clearing in the winter months. That model has been replaced by a subsidy program for 2023/2024, helping those in need pay for snow clearing through the service of their choice.

However, Waterdown residents specifically, will be able to access either the new subsidy program, or the legacy volunteer program this coming winter, thanks to Flamborough Connects.

Hamilton’s new Snow Angels program will assist seniors and disabled residents with a financial subsidy to help them meet the requirements of the City of Hamilton Sidewalk Snow Clearing By-law.  The subsidy can be used to pay for snow removal needed to clear the sidewalk and to provide safe walking access to the front door and through the snow-plow windrow. This subsidy is not to be used for whole driveway snow clearing.

Applicants must meet the following criteria to qualify for the sub:

  • Be a resident of Hamilton

  • Own your home & must live in the home during the winter season

  • Are unable to remove your own snow and have no one living in the home who is physically able to remove snow

  • 65 years of age or older and/or have a physical disability

  • Have a total household income below the current Statistics Canada Low-Income Measurement for your family size

Eligible residents will receive two installments of $225 for a total of $450. To learn more and to apply online for the Snow Angels subsidy, visit https://www.hamilton.ca/people-programs/financial-stability-supports/support-programs/snow-angels

In Waterdown, Flamborough Connects will continue coordinating the legacy Snow Angels program, recruiting volunteers and matching them with low-income seniors and people with disabilities. For those enrolled in the program, volunteer Snow Angels will remove snow from a resident’s sidewalk, windrow, and path leading to their main access door within 24-hours of a snowfall.

Volunteers are always wanted, so if you have the capacity to help, please register to be a Snow Angel for someone in our community. To register as a volunteer or a client, please call 905-689-7880 or email admin@flamboroughconnects.ca.
